The Gargoyles of Selby

Posted by Nicolas Lewis Category: Projects

For Selby Arts Festival the 154 Collective were given the keys to a disused shop in the town centre, which we turned into a Gargoyle utopia.

For the duration of the week, members of the public dropped in to draw pictures, write stories, and help create songs about their Gargoyles. I had two days to compile and record these Gargoyle songs with Hayley Youell, which was a lot of surreal fun. Meanwhile Fabric Lenny and Dan Mallaghan busily created a cardboard maze, gargoyle gallery, and sculptures. By the end of the week the stories, pictures, sculptures, and songs were overflowing from the shop.
